Today is my first Physical

My first post last year was my doctors appt. and mammogram. This year it was easier to get a mammogram and wasn’t as scary. The nurse was a lot gentler then last years and my results came back great.

My blood test came back with an improvement in vitamin D, LDL which is very high and is helping my heart, and HDL has improved. I will find out for sure today when my Doctor reads the report to me. I will  have my blood pressure checked so she won’t call anymore to get me in here. Last year my blood pressure was 199 over 98, which scared the nurse. She took it several times to make sure it was correct. They immediately subscribed medication which has corrected the problem.

Went great today, my BP was 139 over 74. Dr. said she doesn’t want to see it any higher. I need to monitor it every day. I have a referral to see a dermatologist next week for several sun spots. Living by Huntington Beach and constant tanning beds here I have damaged my skin. When you are young, you think nothing will happen to you, but can’t go back.

I had my knee x-rayed  and will find out what that is all about. Dr. thinks it might be bursitis  from my weight. But I can’t loose weight if I can’t walk or jog, a vicious cycle.

I asked about my heart sonogram from last year and why one side was thicker then the other. She said that’s from hypertension damage.  When one side is pumping harder and faster than normal through a small tube is gets thicker like when you exercise an arm muscle it gets larger. Dr. said as long as my BP stays regulated it will go back to normal. Which she said it should be since I have maintained a normal BP.

I love my Kaiser doctor and it is easier to talk to her than a male Doctor. I was able to get a lot of answers that I had on my mind. Well all I have to worry about next is the appt. next week with the Dermatologist. See you than and have a Wonderful New Year.

Split pea soup

DSC00706

I was watching Paula Dean today and she was making Split pea soup. Wow that looked so good and I had a ham bone in the fridge from Christmas dinner, just waiting to go into something. Perfect and good timing. It was so easy, I put all the veggies into the food processor and shredded it so the soup would cook faster.  I subbed the bacon for the ham and turned out great. When I think of split pea I think of ham so it suited my craving.

Even the dogs benefitted from the leftover ham bones.

Gismo headed for the bedroom were he knew I would protect him.

And Audrey headed for the chair were she made a big mess, and I noticed she shredded an ice cream wrapper. I need to check under here more often. Once they chewed the meat off the bones went into the trash. It looks like the bone had a chipping that would cause them to choke.

2 MORE DAYS TILL VACATION!!

I should start my diet today and by the time I come back to work maybe I can loose at least 6 pounds. If it wasn’t for my bad knee keeping myself from exercising, I might have a chance. Next week on Wednesday I have a doctors appt. and I can have her check it out. Maybe she can figure what’s wrong and take some test.  I sure miss jogging, it’s a great feeling of accomplishment, which I haven’t done in 3 years and my weight shows it. I was able to add an exercise gadget on my blog to keep track, but can’t figure out how to add the my fitness pal ticker tape.

Tonight I tried a new recipe and everyone loved it. Who doesn’t like chicken.

Can put in my family favorites. Here is the link.

A beautiful Sunset

As soon as we went over the hill on the way home, we saw this beautiful sunset. I couldn't get my phone out fast enough so the ugly intersection is in the picture. As I was taking the picture the lady next to us hollered "I was thinking the same thing"
Last time it looked like this it rained. Rain would be a welcome in the Sacramento area, It's been very dry. Folsom Lake is still at 95% capacity but doesn't look good for next year.

Bishops pumpkin farm

I had a fun trip to Wheatland this week. It wasn’t to muddy where your wheels were stuck thank goodness.

There were thousands of little kids all lined up anxiously waiting to get in.

As soon as we parked there were several little ones plugging their noses saying how it stunk. I told them it was the little piggy's and cows.

The first place I headed to was the food court and has dessert first.

It was yummy.

Then we went to the Piggy races and it wasn’t what I was expecting, it was a granny reading 3 little piggy's which was very cute.

Then it was lunch time and only a few places were open. I found a tri tip sandwich that was a little tuff and luke warm, I was a little disappointed.

The train ride was very popular, going by the pumpkin farm and under the tunnel by the pig races.

Of course I had to add this one. I guess I'm  partial to it.

One of many hero's on 9/11

A true hero story was told on ESPN this morning and it touched my heart so much that I had to share it with all of you. I have tried to not watch anything that  had to do with 9-11 because it was to painful to remember that day 10 years ago. I was getting ready for work and had the TV on. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It didn’t look real, it looked like a movie instead. All I could do was stare trying to make my brain translate what I was seeing. When I managed to go to work, there was everyone in front of the TV in disbelief.
Today watching all the families telling their stories of their loved ones that they lost, just brings tears to my eyes and heart. Now they have a beautiful memorial that honors them.

This morning my hubby treated us to breakfast since I saved him some money. He was saving up for a Gamo air rifle that he saw on the Internet. He found one at the Rocklin sporting store that he really liked, I think he didn’t want to wait for the UPS delivery. We went to my favorite place in downtown Roseville and enjoyed our time together.

Later today I made 1 of my daughters favorite foods, stuffed green peppers. They turned out really good.
These were Kim's and Haley's.
And these were ours.
The boys were upset because ours didn't look as good as the girls.
STUFFED GREEN PEPPERS
1 whole pepper each, 6 servings

Wash and clean the inside of 6 large green peppers
boil 5 min then cool under cold water. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Prepare rice:

3 cups beef broth
1 cup rice
salt, pepper

bring broth to boil and add rice, bring to a boil again then cover tightly and put on low for 20 minutes.
turn off and let set.

In a large saute pan add:
1/2 yellow onion, (diced)
1/2 green pepper (diced)
salt
garlic powder
pepper
2# of hamburger  and cook till browned
mix all ingredients together
hamburger mixture,rice, mix together.

stuff the green peppers with hamburger mixture.

In a bowl mix 2 cans of Campbell's tomato soup and 1- 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes that I put in the blender for a few seconds. Pour over the top of the green peppers.
Cover with parchment paper then foil.

Bake for 1 hour. Check the center for doneness.
Sprinkle with 2 cups cheddar cheese and place back into oven uncovered for 5 min. Take out and enjoy.

SUPPER WITH MY BIG BROTHER

Safeway had Rib Eyes on sale this week and thought today would be a great day to put them on the grill. There was a great marinade on Time for supper for steak and it sounded so good. I put it all together this morning and stuck it in the fridge. I forgot that my brother Rick and I had agreed to meat at China Buffet at 4:00pm. on Sunrise Blvd.
Hubby and TJ decided to go also.
The China Buffet had a huge selection to choose from.
Hubby had to make sure his octopus was on top to show case his plate.
My brother always picks chinese food when we get together.
Rick is 5 years younger than I am, but since he's 6'4 he'll always be my big brother.
It's always nice to visit since we are always busy with 2 jobs.
#1 son found a tiny crab in his clam
Looks like someone disturbed its lunch.
When we got home I started the grill to get the steaks on before the marinade started to cook them.
They smelled so good, I grilled each side for 4 minutes and turned out perfect.
This will be our supper for tomorrow with baked potatoes and grilled nectarines. Maybe I will buy some vanilla icecream to put on top of the warm nectarines.
It looked so good after they rested, I had to take a chunk out of mine to see how good it was.
A friend at work had to give his moms furniture away so they had more room and Hubby said we were interested. One piece was a china cabinet and I already had my dads blonde colored scandinavian piece. But we found room for it in the kitchen anyway, it's big enough to hold all of my moms china from Japan when dad was overseas.
Also there were two green swivel chairs that would fit in the corners of our bedroom.
We have had a very busy weekend, and now its time to get some rest for a 4 day work week. I love holidays but it seems like we do more instead of rest and enjoy it.
Thank you Rick for closing your store just to spend it with me. Love ya. Your sis

My husband came home with an arm full of flowers, look at that proud face or it could be because the Dodgers won against the Mets 4 to 2. My older son gave him a hard time saying he had to out do us. I'm not complaining.
I was so preoccupied with the flowers, I smelled something burning and the triscuit bag was on fire from the candle.  I couldn't blow it out and kept yelling at my son DO SOMETHING!!! DO SOMETHING!!! He grabbed a cup of water and doused it out, what a mess.
My boys bought a gift card for one of my favorite stores Sur la table so exited to get another food scale so I don't have to guess the oz. for weight watchers. My other one melted on the stove, do you see a theme here? Ha ha
To finish the perfect evening off my son made 3 oz. orange chicken over 1/2 c white and brown rice.    Points plus = 10
My youngest was in charge of dessert but we were out of oil so it will be continued till Tuesday. Theres never to much of a good thing is there.

Well speaking of Mother's Day, my Mama passed away many years ago, so it was a bitter sweet day today. I miss her dearly. If its a bad day I wish she was here to talk to. She was so kind to everyone and would give her clothes off her back to help you. I went through her pictures to put some up on the blog and it was very emotional but fun to remember back at a happy time.
When I show a picture of mama I have to put her twin brother also. She was so proud of her 2 brothers Dean and Ralph(twin)

October 1956 My dad must been on leave from the navy. This is in the navy housing in Long Beach Ca.
Mom always made sure we went to church every Sunday.

I love you Mama.
